This Pregnancy Blood Test is a qualitative hCG test that measures levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in to determine whether or not you are pregnant. When an embryo implants, the placenta begins producing hCG with levels approximately doubling every 2-3 days during the first few weeks of pregnancy. This Pregnancy Test is more sensitive (and thus more accurate) than over-the-counter urine testing kits and though you might see results sooner, it’s best to wait around two weeks after intercourse (or a day after a missed period) to test to ensure accurate results.

How Pregnancy Blood Tests Work

Pregnancy tests can either be conducted by a blood test or urine sample. At Priority Lab Testing, we conduct our qualitative hCG tests via blood samples to provide accurate results you can trust. To get started, simply place your order online and stop by one of our 4,000+ nationwide testing facilities at your convenience (no appointment required). A member of the center’s staff will collect a blood sample at which point your part of the process is done. The sample collection itself takes only a few minutes and most patients are in and out within a half-hour. From there, your sample will be processed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and, in as little as 24-72 hours, you’ll have full results regarding your hCG and pregnancy status.

Common Symptoms

The most common symptoms of early pregnancy can begin as soon as 1 week after conception but usually occur within 2-3 weeks. These symptoms can include:

  • Missed period
  • Tender, swollen breasts
  • Nausea with or without vomiting
  • Increased urination
  • Fatigue

The less obvious symptoms are largely due to fluctuating hormone levels. Other signs that you might be pregnant can include:

  • Moodiness
  • Bloating
  • Cramping
  • Constipation
  • Food aversions
  • Nasal congestion

How to Interpret Your Results

We strive to make interpreting your pregnancy results as straightforward as possible. Our Pregnancy Blood Test measures any trace of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the blood.
These results will indicate if the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is present in your blood. Results will either read “Negative” if there is no hCG hormone present or “Positive” if there are traces of the hCG hormone in your blood, indicating a positive pregnancy. If you’re still uncertain about your results or what they mean, our care counselors are available to assist with your questions or even put you in touch with a physician to discuss your results.

Pregnancy Blood Test vs Follicle Stimulating Hormone Test (FSH)

A Pregnancy Blood Test measures the amount of hCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin hormone present in the body. This hormone is produced during pregnancy. Therefore, if your test results indicate that hCG is present, you can assume you are in the early stages of pregnancy. On the other hand, the Follicle Stimulating Hormone Test (FSH) measures your FSH levels. FSH is a sex hormone that directly contributes to the development and function of sexual organs. Although a necessary hormone to sustain a pregnancy, the presence of FSH does not indicate pregnancy.
