Urine sample

This 6 Panel Drug Test analyzes a urine sample to detect traces of six commonly used illicit drugs:

  • Amphetamines
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Marijuana Metabolites
  • Cocaine Metabolite
  • Opiates
  • Oxycodone

Results of this test are listed as simply “positive” or “negative” for each of the six drugs depending on whether or not the drug was detected. If possible, it’s suggested to use an early morning urine sample for this test. And contrary to urban legend, drinking excessive amounts of water in an effort to “beat” the 6 Panel Drug Test will, at best, trigger an invalid sample (not “negative”) and the subject will need to test again.

How 6-Panel Drug Tests Work

For our 6-Panel Drug Test, simply place your order online and stop by one of our 4,000+ nationwide testing facilities at your convenience (no appointment required). A member of the center’s staff will collect a urine sample, after which your part in the process is done. The sample collection itself takes only a few minutes and most patients are in and out and about their day in under a half-hour. You should come in first thing in the morning, which gives more accurate results From there, your sample will be processed in a CLIA-certified laboratory and in as little as 24-72 hours. The lab will screen your urine for all six drugs – amphetamines, benzodiazepines, marijuana metabolites, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and oxycodone – from one sample of urine, so there will be no need to come back.

Common Drug Addiction Symptoms

Signs that somebody is addicted to a drug vary by drug, but there are some things which are common signs of addiction in general. These include:

  • Changes in personality and behavior
  • Lack of motivation and interest in things previously enjoyed
  • Lack of concern for personal hygiene
  • Unusual need for money
  • Changes in friends and activities
  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Frequently bloody nose
  • Shakes
  • Tremors
  • Slurred speech

Employers may also require new hires or existing employees to take a drug test as a condition of employment. This six-panel drug test covers most of the drugs an employer might be concerned about.

How to Interpret Your Results

Your results will come back on an easy-to-read table delivered via a secure link to email. There will be a column marked ‘flagged’ that shows whether you tested positive for a substance.

We do work with employers on drug testing and ensuring that results are sent directly to the right person where they cannot be tampered with, but in most cases results are confidential and will not be sent to other third parties unless requested by law enforcement.

Six-Panel Drug Test versus Full Panel Drug Test

We also offer a full panel drug test that adds phencyclidine, barbiturates and methamphetamine. This test is for situations where more testing is needed, perhaps due to the sensitive nature of the position being applied for.

The test still works from a single urine sample collected at one of our walk-in clinics, and thus there is no extra work for the person being tested. Which test should be used depends on the symptoms of addiction potentially being shown or the sensitivity of the position being applied to. The full panel includes all of the drugs in the 6-panel, so if in doubt it might be best to choose the full panel. However, the 6-panel is sufficient for many purposes.

FAQs

  • This test is primarily intended for employment-related drug testing, but people can also take the test to demonstrate that they are not using illegal drugs in other contexts, such as if family are showing concern. There are many reasons to get drug tested, especially as addiction can affect your responsibilities and relationships.

  • Test results are binary for this test and thus very clear. We do give access to care counselors who can help you understand the results and, if necessary, to a doctor that can help with addiction counseling and referrals.

  • The only people who will see the results of the 6-panel drug test are the person being tested and, by arrangement, their employer. We do not provide results to third parties, including relatives, but they may be subpoenaed by law enforcement. All of our testing results are kept confidential and separate from your medical records.
